Luxembourg’s Ministry for Digitalisation and Government IT Centre (CTIE) has embarked on a groundbreaking journey to test a digital identity system in a significant leap towards modernizing its digital infrastructure. This initiative is part of the European Union’s ambitious European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) pilot program, aiming to revolutionize how citizens interact with official documents. 

Key Highlights: 

  1. Four Crucial Use Cases:

    The Luxembourg-based pilot program focuses on four critical use cases that underscore the versatility and potential of a robust digital identity system. These use cases include storing and utilizing mobile driving licenses, accessing eGovernment services, opening bank accounts, and enabling remote document signing.

  1. Europe-Wide Compatibility:

    The tests conducted by the Ministry for Digitalisation and CTIE are not isolated efforts but are part of the broader framework of the Potential Consortium’s trials. This collaborative effort involves over 140 public and private sector organizations from 19 EU member states and Ukraine.   • Qualified eSignature: Examining the potential for a qualified electronic signature with legal value, empowering citizens to sign documents remotely and gaining recognition across all EU member states.

    The Ministry for Digitalisation and CTIE intend to equip Luxembourg with the necessary services and technologies to adopt a digital wallet.
