There are so many different laws, rules, and regulations dictating how consumers and businesses can use eSignatures throughout the world. It’s difficult to keep up with everything, so we’ve created a helpful eBook just for you!
Worldwide, experts tend to use the terms “electronic” and “digital” signatures differently. For this document, we will use these terms in the following ways.
An electronic signature (eSignature) indicates acceptance of an agreement or form. Most processes track each step in the signature process. This includes when the agreement was sent, opened, signed, as well as, the IP and email address of each signer.
A digital signature requires the signer to authenticate their identity using a certificate-based digital ID. The digital certificate is generally issued by an independent Certificate Authority (CA), which verifies the identity of the signer before issuing the certificate.
