In The News: Vancouver Island testing out electronic health records system
NEWSWIRE: July 20, 2016
DATELINE: British Columbia
An electronic health records system is being tested out by four hundred members of the Cowichan Tribe on Vancouver Island.
Mustimuhw Information Solutions Inc., the First Nation’s own technology company, helped develop the system. Patients can now directly message their doctors and can share their records with other healthcare providers. Health minister Terry Lake says “this is really a 21st Century way of engaging patients and allowing them to be part of their circle of care.”
Toni Williams, a Cowichan Tribes member, is part of the trial. She says that, with two young children, sharing information from doctor visits with other family members is a big help.
Over the next 18 months the new system will be tested with 400 patients from the Cowichan Tribes.
